This ‘In Memorium’ entry commemorates our founder, Father, and friend, Larry “The King” Schad. Larry cast off the mortal coil on March 18,2021. Obituary
Larry J. Schad was a native of New Albany and graduated from New Albany High School in 1959. He attended the University of Kentucky on a football scholarship and graduated in 1963. His Juris Doctor was earned from the University of Louisville. Following his graduation from U of L, it was necessary for Larry to complete two years of active military service in fulfillment of his ROTC Army Commission. He served in the Medical Service Corp in Vietnam in 1969 and earned a Bronze Star.
Upon discharge from the Army, Larry returned home to begin his law career. Within a year of returning, he decided to run for public office and was elected City Court Judge in 1972 and re-elected in 1976. During that time he created many innovative programs designed to deal with growing public concerns, some of which were the first of their kind in the U.S. Almost all courts in the country now have programs similar to those created by Larry in the 1970’s.
His law career spanned five decades. In that time, he has added his sons to the firm to handle a growing caseload. He practiced in the area of Domestic Law, Wills and Estates, and Social Security Disability Claims.
He lived on a working dairy farm with his wife Judy, who still owns Capriole, Inc. Capriole manufacturers both nationally and internationally acclaimed goat cheeses featured in many of the nation’s finest restaurants and eateries. Larry was a mighty epicurian and famously enjoyed the connection to this side of life.
We miss him greatly.
